Vadakkumnadhan is a 2006 Indian Malayalam-language psychological drama film directed by Shajoon Kariyal and written by Gireesh Puthenchery. The film stars Mohanlal as Iringannoor Bharatha Pisharody, a university professor diagnosed with bipolar disorder, alongside Padmapriya and Kavya Madhavan.


Plot Summary

The film revolves around Bharathan, a brilliant Sanskrit professor who is respected and loved by everyone. However, he suffers from bipolar disorder and runs away from home, leading his family to believe he has died. Years later, his mother and younger brother find him in Haridwar and convince him to return home. Bharathan then sets about making things right by apologizing to his college and to Bhama's groom, eventually winning Meera's father's consent for their marriage. He later accepts a position as a Sanskrit professor at the college and the film ends with them going on a pilgrimage to the Vadukkunmathan temple.
